Pharmacist insight: Identity based change.

As a pharmacist, I see people try to change their health through "willpower" all the time. They fail because they are trying to do something without first changing who they are.

  • The Motivation Trap: Most people start with outcome-based goals ("I want to lose 20 pounds"). The problem is, once the goal is reached, the motivation disappears. If you don't have a reason to keep going, you revert.

  • Identity-Based Change: This is the Black Belt level. You don't just "diet"; you become someone who makes choices that honour your body. The question shifts from "What do I have to give up?" to "What would someone who values their health do right now?"

  • The Habit Loop (Cue, Routine, Reward): We've spent 25 weeks rewriting your neural pathways. The old cues (stress -> eat sugar) have been replaced with new routines (stress -> breathe/ walk). These are now becoming your default.

Pharmacist Note: Your identity has shifted. You are no longer someone "trying to get healthy." You are someone who is healthy. The actions are just a reflection of that identity.

🥋 Black Belt Move
TYING the Black Belt”

The act of tying the belt each day is a ritual. It is a moment of mindfulness where the practitioner commits to the principles of the dojo for that day. The belt itself is just a piece of cloth; the meaning is imbued by the person tying it.

Your "belt" is your Personal Black Belt Code. This is not a diet plan. This is a set of principles, distilled from 26 weeks of insights, that you carry with you for the rest of your life. It is flexible enough to adapt to any situation but strong enough to guide you when you are lost.

The Technique: Writing Your Code

You are going to distil the 25 weeks of insights into a short, personal "Black Belt Code." This code will be your compass.

  • It should be short: 5-7 core tenets maximum. You need to be able to remember them.

  • It should be principle-based, not rule-based: Not "eat 50g of carbs," but "fuel your activity, starve your sedentary moments."

  • It should be positive: Frame it as what you do, not what you avoid.

Action point!
This Week's Drill: Create your personal Black belt code.

Sit down with a journal or a note on your phone. Reflect on the journey. What were the non-negotiables that made the biggest difference?

  • Here is a template to get you started, based on our journey:

    My Black Belt Code

    1. Breathe First: When stress hits, I pause and breathe (Kokyu-Ho) before reacting. Cortisol is not the boss of me. (Week 11)

    2. Move on Purpose: I seek NEAT. I take the stairs, I walk after meals, I fidget. My body was built to move. (Week 12)

    3. Fuel the Work: Carbs are not the enemy; sedentary carbs are. I time my fuel around my activity. (Week 13)

    4. Protect the Frame: I prioritise sleep and active recovery. Rest is not laziness; it's when I get stronger. (Week 14)

    5. Defend My Guard: I use polite, firm words to protect my health in social situations. My goals are my own. (Week 15)

    6. Eat with Intention: I sit, I chew, I listen. My meals are a ritual, not a distraction. (Week 18)

    7. Flow, Don't Force: I listen to my body. I adapt. I practice metabolic flexibility in food and in life. (Week 21, Week 20)

This week, your only challenge is to reflect and commit.

  1. Write your Code.

  2. Share it. Tell someone (maybe the person you taught in Week 25) that you have completed this journey, and this is your new operating system.

  3. Live it. Starting now. Not tomorrow, not Monday. Now.

By incorporating these tips and tricks into your routine, you can cultivate a happy and healthy lifestyle.
